Beef, It’s what’s for…..LUNCH! The buzz on Monday was about just how good the hamburgers/cheeseburgers were that were served for lunch! Thanks to a grant provided through the Missouri Department of Elementary & Secondary Education Food Services, Pilot Grove has local, farm fresh beef to serve for lunch! The district was awarded a grant this fall to provide locally sourced food for schools. The District didn’t have to look far to find Senior, FFA member Haley Imhoff with her own herd of beef cattle. Haley raised the beef then delivered it to Kempf’s Custom Butchering for processing. A requirement of the grant was that the beef must be processed in a USDA inspected packaging facility. Kempf’s was great to work with and upon delivery of the beef, Chef Glenn, Suzanne & Janice were ready to serve it up in the lunch room! This week’s menu Monday featured our farm fresh beef for the first time and students raved about the great taste and quality of their burgers! We are excited to partner with our local beef provider Haley and the Local Food for Schools grant to provide some farm fresh beef for lunch!
